Visit by German Ambassador to mark 25 years of Tuam twinning:   The new German Ambassador, HE Busso von Alvensleben made his first visit outside Dublin to Tuam on Monday evening, 31 August 2009. It  was his first trip outside the capital since he presented his credentials to President Mary McAleese on June 29. The Ambassador was guest of  honour at a civic reception, hosted by the Town Council, to mark 25 years since the first steps were taken to twin Tuam with Straubing in  Bavaria. The reception was also attended by Sister Angela Veit and four of the students who accompanied her on her initial visit to Tuam in  August 1984. Guests at the reception also included some of the original host families from 1984, members of the twinning committee and  students from Holy Rosary College, Mountbellew - the most recent visitors to Straubing as part of the annual exchange. After the reception in  the Town Hall, the Ambassador and guests visited the Town Library to view a display which included original documents, photographs of visits  to Tuam and Straubing and other archive material.  A selection of photos from the evening can be seen in the link above- "Photos from event".  Pages designed and written by John Fahey and made with Xara Above: Representing the Mayor of Tuam, Tom Reilly,  and member of twinning committee, Sally-Ann Flanagan, presents the ambassador with a memento of his visit.
